Introducing the 2014 BMW Concept X4

April 24, 2013  |  Concept Vehicles, Media

BMW X4

This week at the Shanghai International Auto Show, BMW reveled the exterior of what they’re calling the 2014 BMW Concept X4. Taking a number of design cues from it’s older and larger brother, the X6, the X4 is BMW’s newest 5-door Sports Activity Coupe. The X4 is slated for a likely 2014 model year release and will be produced at BMW’s Spartanburg, SC facility.

Sharing a platform with the BMW X3 means a reliable chassis, but each body panel is constructed unique for the X4 giving the distinctive styling that typifies the BMW Sports Activity Coupe body style.

Although interior options and power train details have not yet been released we expect the power plant offerings for the X4 to include the TwinPower Turbo 2.0 liter 4-cylinder motor and the turbocharged 3.0 inline 6-cylinder. We’re also hopeful for a diesel offering from BMW on this smaller, sleeker SAC.

We also expect the X4 will share many of the high end interior components it’s cousin the X3 has. The Spartanburg, South Carolina production facility recently underwent a multi-million dollar expansion, allowing it the capacity to produce more models, such as the X4.

BMW 4 Series Coupe Revealed at Detroit Auto Show

January 17, 2013  |  Future BMW

It’s official, BMW’s 4 Series is replacing the current 3 Series Coupe and Convertible. The number “4″ is a first for BMW, but even those skeptical of the new Series have to admit that the new 4 Series Coupe Concept is the finest rendition of the 3 Series Coupe they’ve ever seen. Just revealed at the Detroit Auto Show, check out the images below.

What BMW has to say about the ’4′:

“The ’4′ doesn’t just mark the start of a new cycle, it represents the zenith of a development curve. BMW has given the new model its own individual character and a standalone design – and, in so doing, has turned ’4′ into segment shorthand for aesthetic and dynamic appeal. The latest addition to a nomenclature that sees BMW building on the fine tradition of its large BMW 6 Series and BMW 8 Series Coupes, the ’4′ stands for greater sportiness, greater exclusivity and even clearer differentiation from the BMW 3 Series range.”

LA Auto Show reveals BMW i3

November 28, 2012  |  Future BMW, Technology

The LA Auto Show opens to the public this Friday, showcasing BMW’s new i3 – an electric vehicle that upholds the brand’s reputation for “fun-to-drive”.

Take a look at its sleek interior, composed of wood, leather, wool and other renewable materials.

i3 concept

Electric vehicles have been criticized because of their short driving span, but BMW promises the i3 will not just an in-town, get-me-to-the-next-charging-station cruiser ASAP.  The i3 can drive up to 100 miles on one battery charge and its interior technology will alert the driver as to remaining battery power using a number of factors including driving style, route topography and the use of interior electrical devices. The Navigation can guide the driver to the closest charging station and can recommend more efficient driving routes as opposed to the fastest.

BMW’s new M Performance Steering Wheel

November 7, 2012  |  Technology

Slowly (or quickly?) BMWs are turning into savvy computers on wheels. A climatic addition to the Bimmer cockpit is a fancy M steering wheel that will actually measure the g-forces you attain as you whip through impossible corners. Not only that, it will tell you your lap times, fuel efficiency, and when to shift to the next gear. It’s like having a mini co-pilot/engineer on your wheel. Tap into its Race mode and you’ll access precise acceleration measures and extensive timing.

Priced at $1,600 and named the BMW M Performance Steering Wheel, it is wrapped thickly in Alcantara suede for that finite extra feel/grip that every driving enthusiast demands.
