Brief History of BMW Z4
The Z in Z4 stands for the German word for future, Zukunft. A more recent addition to BMW’s models, the Z4 was produced in 2002 as a replacement of the Z3. It immediately won “Design of the Year Award” in Automobile Magazine. The second generation of the Z4 was produced in the 2009 model year; it’s uniqueness is found in its retractable hardtop.
The Z4 Today
Introduce yourself to the BMW Z4 Roadster, a joyous expression of art and innovation in one exhilarating package. Refreshing and stylish, the Z4 launches roadster design and performance into the next decade and beyond. Its classic characteristics–a long hood, powerful haunches, swept-back seats and broad, aggressive front end–are enhanced by a mastery of modern innovation. A lightning-fast transmission, with refined steering and suspension, paints the car into curves like a brush. Attention to safety and comfort features in the enlarged cabin have reached luxurious new heights. And topping it all off is an ingenious, retractable hardtop that makes driving the Z4 Roadster a decidedly year-round experience. This is style and performance for any season.

Beneath the long hoods of the Z4 Roadsters lie three of the world’s most sophisticated inline six-cylinder engines. The powerplant in the Z4 sDrive35i is a revolutionary Advanced Turbo that generates 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates with a force that throws you back in your seat and doesn’t stop until redline, reaching 60 mph in 5.0 seconds. Turbo lag is virtually a thing of the past, thanks to Double-VANOS “steplessly” variable valve timing, direct fuel injection, and BMW’s Advanced Turbo technology. High-precision direct fuel injection maximizes every ounce of fuel, making the Advanced Turbo engine more efficient. A lightweight aluminum engine block and Double-VANOS technology enhance smooth power delivery, fuel efficiency and lowered emissions.

Z4 Accolades
“[The Z4] is a lightning bolt looking for a place to strike.”
-Ken Wells, Kuni BMW Client Advisor
“Sleek styling, a high-class interior and plenty of performance combine to make the 2011 BMW Z4 one of the most desirable luxury roadsters available.”
-Edmunds.com
“The 2007 BMW Z4 M Coupe looks good and goes fast. It’s a solid sports car with a little extra cargo space, plus a very tweakable audio system.”
CNET.com, August 2007
“…the coupe’s sloped roofline and reworked rear end utterly transform the Z4. The little fastback seems to squat on its haunches, poised for takeoff. It looks completely badass.”
“Typical of BMWs, the seating position is superb, and the pedals are perfectly placed for heel-and-toe downshifting.”
“Fast and furious, the M Coupe wants a buyer who prizes speed over finesse. If you’re really hard-core, you’ll make it your only car.”
Automobile, August 2006
