BMW Gran Coupe Concept

BMW unveiled its latest concept car known as the BMW Gran Coupé Concept during the 2010 Beijing Auto Show in April.  This 4-door coupe is intended to fit in the slot between the 5 and 7 Series. Although a radically new model for BMW, it retains the company’s signature elements including the double-kidney grille, the shark nose, and the Hofmesiter kink at the rear windows.  The sporty coupe roofline is 4 inches lower than the roofline of either the 5 or 7 Series, and the length of the car is only 3 inches shorter than the 7 Series.  Engine options and interior design have yet to be announced.

This coupe rises to the challenge offered by competing brands including the Mercedes-Benz CLS, the Audi Sportback Concept and the Porsche Panamera.

Also interesting is that the new Gran Coupé made its first appearance in China, an area in which BMW sees as potential for great sales growth.  BMW has yet to announce whether it will produce this vehicle.
