Rumors have been circulating for a long time concerning the much anticipated 1 Series M. An announcement from Dr. Kay Segler, the BMW M Division boss has recently confirmed that the 1-Series based M model will be produced for the second quarter of 2011.
No official name has been released concerning this 1-Series M. There is already loyalty to the name M1, reserved for the M1 supercar that was produced 30 years ago. The German magazine Auto-News.de suggests the name 135i M, or another possibility is the 1M.
The model will be based on the 135i Coupe, using an updated engine. Estimated horsepower for the mystery 1M car should be in the 340-350 bracket, increased from 306 horsepower found in the standard 135i.
It is not to be produced in great quantity and only for a short 12 months. In time it will no doubt be considered a collector’s vehicle.
According to bmwblog.com, here are some of the things that will define the 1M:
- Six piston brakes
- High performance intercooler
- Slightly modified headlights
- Wider wheel arches and fenders
- Standard 18″ wheels and options Competition wheels
- Small lip spoilers above brake duct inlets to provide extra air flow
- Integrated spoiler
- Rear diffuser with open ducts
- M gills
- Typical M quad-exhaust pipes
- Carbon Fiber roof
