Confirmed: Production of 2012 BMW 3 Series ActiveHybrid

June 3, 2010  |  Future BMW

The excitement and anticipation generated by the production of the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 Concept and the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 Concept is not to be confined to these two models.   No, the secret was spilled recently at a meeting in Munich where BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer announced that BMW will be offering a hybrid version of the next generation 3 Series to be launched in 2012.  The technology found in the upcoming 5 series ActiveHybrid will be reproduced in the 3 Series.

The decision to produce a 3 Series ActiveHybrid will contribute to BMW’s efforts to reduce CO2 emissions, and it will cater to the hybrid-hungry Japanese market.  ”Sales of hybrid vehicles in Japan have skyrocketed.  If you don’t have a hybrid in your portfolio, soon you might not be selling any cars in Japan at all,” stated Reithofer.
