Introducing the 2011 BMW 335is

BMW has engineered a new type of 3 Series, exclusively for the U.S. Known as the 335is, and available in dealerships starting in April and June, this car is a more exotic 335i, and a slightly tamer M3. The “i” in “is” represents fuel-injection, and the “s” represents sport. It is available in either a coupe or convertible body style. Outfitted with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven speed dual clutch transmission, this all-new BMW reaches 60 mph from a standstill in between 5.0 and 5.1 seconds flat. It boasts of all the same features as the freshly facelifted 2011 3 Series, yet brings more to the table. It includes 320 horsepower, compared to the 300 horsepower of the 335i, and carries the same robust engine as the Z4 sDrive35is.
BMW’s intention is for the 335is to be appealing to club racers, yet offer a more affordable ride than the M3. The 335is sports a higher-capacity cooling fan, adds a supplementary radiator, and an additional oil cooler. Only the convertible will receive foglamps, in favor of larger air openings. The mufflers are less-restricted, allowing the angry engine to express itself. Car and Driver Magazine put it well when they said that the 335is “rockets into triple-digit speeds as if towed by a Boeing 747″.
The exterior changes include ferric gray 18-inch alloys, glossy black kidney surrounds and mirror caps, black window trim, side skirts, and a new rear diffuser. The interior contains an M sport steering wheel, sports seats and sport pedals, plus faux aluminum trim.
