BMW Future ConnectedDrive

Believe it or not, whales and BMWs have something in common. Whales open their jaws wide and allow plankton to stream into their internal abyss, and BMW’s jaws are starting to open wider and wider to allow for more intake of information. Designer of today’s Z4, Juliane Blasi, suggests future BMWs will intake information as you drive along and process it to the driver to provide revolutions in (3) categories: safety, infotainment and convenience. Even Better than Zipcar, BMW introduces DriveNow

April 5, 2011  |  Technology

BMW DriveNow

You love ZipCar, but this is even better.

DriveNow is BMW’s latest idea for  those urban drivers who want to run quick errands around the city.  The best part is that the cars are not stored in massive garages, but rather are parked randomly around the city wherever the last user parked it.  Just check the app on your iPhone to determine where the closest DriveNow BMW (or MINI Cooper) is parked, and hop in. Access to the car is made possible by using your driver’s license as a digital “key”.  Also, parking is free, and gas is included.  Genius.

It just keeps getting better and better.  The rate to drive one of these BMWs is only 29 cents per minute (cheaper than a taxi).  The only problem is that DriveNow is only available in Munich, Germany. That’s right, way across the ocean.  But if it proves to be a success there, surely we will see it crop up in the U.S. in the future.
